We cross the George Washington Fill for work twice per day every weekday. In 2002 I resolved to go over it for at the first try, during my first go on to New York. Overwhelmed by many of the lanes and the city to my right, We missed my exit and drove around Washington Height or Queens, I’m still not sure, until I finally came forth in midtown. On that drive We stared at the bridge all the way across it and took in every building as most of us made our way by Times Square in the 1998 Cavalier. Now I barely discover the bridge or the town as I come over the next day in a carpool or return later in the day on the bus, my head buried within a book or my attention on conversations with co-workers. One of the great bridges in the country? Great, what’s the traffic like? The Hudson River down the page? All right. The fantastic skyline? Yeah, seen the item. That occasional indifference is the result of doing the same issue for seven years and surviving in the city for ten.
